Author Statement
While I have never regarded fiction-writing as a career, I came to it in mid-life with a good background as a lifelong writer – of letters, in my youth, research papers as a student, lecture notes as a teacher, and technical materials professionally. I had most of the word, syntax, and flow techniques ready to hand. Fiction for me was like a classically trained performer turning to jazz, with its freedom to invent. Fiction has its own discipline, however, and I have worked at the craft and learned a lot.
My goal in all fiction writing is to tell a story – to myself, of course, but also for the widest possible audience. Taste in reading matter, as in art and music, is subjective. Identifying the attributes of a “good” book or story can never be completely objective, but I am always looking for those elements – short of lurid trash – that will attract and hold readers. Some of my books and stories do that, I’m told, by informal readers of the ‘friends and relatives’ class. I hope that you agree, reader.
As a compulsive story-teller, I expect to generate more, and hopefully better, novels and stories as long as I’m able.

A Personal
essay excerpt
I have met people who claim to remember everything from their birth on in vivid detail.
“You just have to be in touch with your karma,” one of them, a particularly enlightened soul, once told me.
Such ethereal concepts have never found much place in the interplay between my database and central processor. Even as a child, I tended toward the practical and literal, the plain, the clear and distinct reality which was more than enough to keep me chronically a little puzzled by life.
